I had a question this week about mixing up words, and is that dyslexia.
Here is what I wrote back.
1. you asked, I seem to skip words or use the wrong word.. why
With dyslexia, your mind is very busy and way ahead of your reading or speaking. The brain keeps busy while you read, and you kind of lose your place because it takes off on its own thoughts. Also, with dyslexia, you read by the shape of a word, so form and form have the same look, and so do pageant and pregnant. I call it 3d reading; you see things in 3d, not 2d. p, d, b, and q are all the same shape, so they can get mixed up.
2. does dyslexia run in the family?
Yes it can run in family members, until I started talking about it, I did not know so many of my family member had it. After writing the book, I was shock at how many told me they had dyslexia. Most told me one on one. One more note, 90% of the people with dyslexia, have no idea they have it. I hope that helps. Author of Dyslexia My Life.. I added a link for more signs of dyslexia.
